Why paint booths require explosion proof lighting

According to NFPA 33 (Standard for Spray Application Using Flammable Materials):

• Electrical equipment in spray areas must be approved for hazardous locations or isolated from the spray zone

• UL844 / Class I Div 1 (North America)

These fixtures are designed to:

• Contain internal sparks or arcs
• Prevent flame propagation

According to IEC 60079, enclosures must withstand internal explosion pressure without rupture.
